Samaritans

So another mental health post I guess.

I went to an Information Meeting for Samaritans at my loca branch who are always looking to recruit more volunteers - whether it be listening or fundraising volunteers who can afford to give five hours of their time a week.

The more they spoke of the Samaritans - the more I would really love to volunteer for them. Sure, my mental health isn’t at its best - however, I think just being there for somebody else helps you forget about what's happening in your mind and focus on theirs, even just for a little while:

Samaritans work with primary schools, promoting being a good friend/ listener and work closely with railway staff, helping them report anyone looking vulnerable and also post vention crisis help. I particularly love that at station platforms there are Samaritans signs in designated areas advertising that help is always there, no matter how rough life becomes.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to start volunteering until September as training is at full capacity for my local branch - however I’m looking at applying for one down South whilst I’m at University! Wish me luck folks.

Thank you for reading (as always)
